It’s not every year that woodlands snowpack withers in 80 degree weather, under a sun just 7 weeks from its zenith. Winter seems to have passed to summer, prompting widespsread
euphoria and flooding. Northfacing hollows are still frozen deep; leafy vernal pools host noisy wood frogs and peepers, and--like the Nile (sort of)--the mighty Blackwater covers its floodplain.
