Summer Tour
8/5/2002

One of the ironies of admission work is that when you tell families that no more spaces exist, they become more insistent on visiting and touring. So it is that Admission Director Chris Bartlett spent this afternoon charming the family of a boy for whom we have no bed.

Let's see what they might encounter on their stroll. Up in the Dow Projection Room in the Learning Center we come across a workshop for admission directors taught under the auspices of Peterson's Guide to Independent Schools. We can almost here the speaker (Rick Cowan, Director of Admission at Putney School)... "One of the ironies of admission work is that when you tell families that no more spaces exist, they become more insistent on visiting and touring...."

Behind Mac House we see Nelson Lebo tending his prolific organic garden, which is feeding lush salads to this week's Gordoes....

And, of course, we encounter Gordon Research conferees themselves....discussing the suspension and transportation of stuff in permeable media (like the compost in Nelson's soil).

Next Corner Friday 8/9

These guys are investigating diffusion-limited mobilization and transport of natural colloids in macroporous soil.
Can we change the topic to fluid flow, heat transfer, and solute transport at nuclear waste storage tanks, please?
What do you think about stochastic analysis of transient flow in heterogeneous, variably saturated porous media?
