This weekend featured heavy rain, ceremony, alumni, trustees and lots of spirit. The turf field dedication drew key families to a make-shift stage at the conjunction of the three playing fields.
To Mike's left, you'll notice an immense granite rock--a gift of the Ballin family. It features two plaques: one dedicates the rock to "Solidarity;" the other honors donors to the project.
While numbers were depressed by the rain, more than 140 attended. Videographer Ethney McMahon and Will Ames appeared to be on different pages.
A few minutes later, all attention went to the girls varsity soccer game, which was the first official contest under the lights on the east turf field. It poured.
The Alumni Office supplied intrepid fans with foam fingers, pom-poms and canister whistles that produced a vuvuzela-like drone that filled the valley.
Those foam fingers re-appeared at Saturday's varsity football game, in which the team in green dominated a talented squad from Pingree.
This game featured many special moments, including the coin-toss, at which Artie Pratt '56 joined Captain Blake Joppy and Blake's little brother.
Doug Peel P'13 captured this image of his son, Ryan, executing one of his signature flips.
Blake scored five touchdowns, and received congratulations from a football Captain who preceded him by 67 years.
