Wilderness Orientation is over, with groups (and individuals) describing very different experiences....all involving rain. Meanwhile, pre-season sports camps have completed a phenomenal week, with 130 athletes stretching, running or riding, working out, practicing specific plays and....most significantly....bonding as teams.
Of note is the fact that field hockey has twenty-two players in preseason--certainly a record!
This equals the largest sports camp in history, and the word from coaches and athletes is that it was the best, too.
Athletic Director Gregor Makechnie could not be happier with the tone, sportsmanship and team-building that has been established. "We may not be the biggest, fastest and strongest in every situation, but we're bringing the best we have to every situation, and that will translate into victories, both statistically and morally."
Sunday afternoon, Orientation groups emerged from busses with wet, smelly bags after four days in the White Mountains. The weather may have been foul, but the human dynamic we seek is evident.
An imported, mobile climbing wall-and bungie trampoline system-drew a crowd to the space outside Wise Center, where music blasted from loud speakers.
