Controlling the Chaos
10/20/2003

In recent days it has occurred to me that it is silly to invest emotion into baseball. Football, it seems, is different. When you think about it, sports set up situations involving lots of chaos. The idea is that good teams win by controlling the chaos more than the other team. Unless it's the Yankees--but I just said that I don't care about that sport. Down 14-0 to a team that annihilated us last year, Proctor football scored four consecutive touchdowns Saturday to beat Kents Hill 28-14. The home crowd included plenty of faculty. From left: John Pendleton, Patty Pond, Stan Peterman, Lee and Bert Carvalho, Tim Norris, Megan Lytle, Sarah Will.

A festive atmosphere was sweetened by the smell of grilled bratwurst, chorizo and hot Italian sausage in natural casings.

The spirited crowd was enhanced during the third quarter by girls soccer players who were euphoric after coming back from two down to tie a powerful squad from KUA.

Here's is one of Tyrone's touchdowns:

On this day, the better team won. Why can't baseball be that way?

Still able to dream: Our buddy Joey Goulart, age 13, shouts "Play ball!" for Fenway fans before Game 5.
Mike gallops for 119 yards on 12 carries.
Profits from the sausage grillade went to the yearbook. They sold out.
Ju Hyun, who has gained great affection for American culture, tears into a bratwurst smothered in onions, ketchup and mustard.
Varsity girls soccer showed up with great spirit.
Slade receives congratulations from coach David Fleming in front of a proud dad.
Sean gets a congratulatory hug from mom.
Brad gets a hug from an adoring little sister.
