Undefeated!
11/9/2008
Proctor's big, fast, hard-hitting football team dominated Holderness Saturday, scoring 43 points in the first half to go undefeated for the second time in four years.

Coach Chuck Reid's highly disciplined squad used a punishing defense and truly explosive offense to take charge from the start.

Meanwhile, the offensive line protected Cody Edgeworth, who lobbed three touchdowns.

I don't have game statistics, but the average gain per down in the first half must have been staggering, as Stanley Benion shredded the Bull's defense repeatedly, scoring three TDs.

When the team in blue did score in the first quarter, Spencer Wood blocked the point after attempt, broke through a gang of aspiring tacklers, and sprinted 95 yards for a key 2-point score. That was a game breaker. Sister Anna '04 and mom wave signs displaying  Spencer's mug:

Proctor fans showed up in force, in a true display of school spirit.

As is often the case, the victory came at a cost. Fenny left to the local ER with his leg in an air cast after the first few plays of the game, and the bench was loaded with players applying ice to bruises during the second half.

The game was played with the best sportsmanship and mutual respect. The Bulls kept the ball on the ground on a long, late scoring drive that mercifully wound down the clock, and they wished Proctor players the best in our upcoming championship game.

Players from both teams left the field in subdued fashion: the Bull's stinging from a convincing loss; the Hornets anticipating a week of hard practice before next weekend's bowl game against a team yet to be identified. Proctor fans were not so subdued!

Stephen sprinted well behind the Holderness secondary to haul in this bomb for the first of his touchdowns.
I had trouble getting my camera shutter to fire fast enough to capture Stanley in focus.
Between kick-offs and extra point attempts, Alex got a good workout.
Hannah and Crystal enjoy the game, and some chocolates.
A man among boys on the field, Stanley was all smiles after the game.
