I don't usually post late-breaking news, but why not? As I write this, fire trucks, an ambulance and the town police car are up at Summerfield [This was my error; it was Johnson House]. Their passage up North Street drew some attention, you can be sure!
It seems the flue from the Passat wood-fired furnace has been building up creosote, which is now en flambe.
We have a chimney fire, which is fairly common here in northern New England.
The procedure calls for chain to be lowered down the chimney, grabbed from the base of the flue, and used like a giant piece of floss to ream out the flammable creosote.
I'll be posting a complete Corner (on another topic!) Thursday morning.
