Day One
9/10/2007

Monday was Day One of the school year. Somebody had to have dish duty, and it was Laurie's advisee group.

The schedule allowed for an easy morning, recognizing that sports camp athletes, coaches, new students, and orientation faculty have been at full throttle for five days. The first scheduled event was a full-school assembly at 10:00 AM.

Mike greeted the school with an uplifting spiel, reflecting that all of us who bring the community's core values into our lives will be hugely successful this year. Swayz followed with a frank assessment of school structures, and the consequences for behaviors outside of those structures.

We then marched through all six academic blocks, each shortened to 20 minutes.

This was just enough time to identify course expectations, respond to initial questions, distribute syllibi and assign initial work.

Guess what class we're visiting, here....

By the time we strolled up to lunch, the year seemed well underway.

Three more mini-classes met after lunch, and (some) students are obviously psyched to get started!

Early this morning, Edna found some new students pouring batter on her waffle irons. That's the last time that will happen!
Swayz and Mike welcomed the community to the new year.
Introductory classes met for 20 minutes each.
After--literally--decades out west, George Emeny is back at Proctor!
Chemistry can be fun!
For Henry, Day One was exactly 16 years ago.
So no one gave him any grief for attending the wrong English class while he missed history this afternoon.....
All work between classes.
It's so good to be back....
