Hundreds of fanatics packed "The Ted" Friday evening to cheer the Green Bees (that's one of Coach Walsh's terms) as they hosted Division I Tilton School.
The Rams took a 5-1 lead into the final period, but that didn't dampen school spirit. Responding to deafening noise generated by the crowd, Proctor scored three straight to make it close with 3 minutes left.
Tilton fans (not pictured) came, too, and the event forced us to consider the nature of healthy rivalry and good sportsmanship.
A couple of adults could learn from students. Calling out to taunt or criticize players is never right. It's that simple: cheer on anybody; criticize nobody.
That doesn't diminish the fun. Some green paint doesn't hurt....
Below, Dean of Students Anne Swayze fends off a fanatical fan.
The behavior of fans Friday night was generally excellent, making it easy to recognize the few, regrettable mistakes. All of this is fine, if we learn through our experience.
