First, find the blue link (upper right) that says "Video Library," open it, and play "Fall Family Weekend." It rocks!
A large steel drum band is performing in the Community Center tonight, so we've declared an "island theme" for today. People are dressing in flowered shirts, and Edna--our beloved baker--served cheeseburgers at breakfast (to Jimmy Buffett music).
Proctor is a community comprised of countless small groups. Today's page looks at several spontaneous clusters. The faculty meets weekly in the chapel. Compared to our peers at other schools, Proctor faculty enjoy extraordinary voice in determining the nature of specific structures.
Student leaders attend these meetings. Last night, they submitted a proposal permitting seniors to ride in day student cars on Friday evenings, with specific authorizations, etc. The debate that followed explored the tension between risk, responsibility and liability. Below, student leaders Ethan and Taylor vote with the majority as the motion passed.
An outdoor science class set off from the pond in search of wild edibles, after sampling dandelion roots.
A forestry class is another interesting subgroup. Forestry is not just about saving trees; it is about responsible use of woodlands. In most cases, responsible, sustainable use means economically viable use. Part of our campus land use plan calls for selective cutting of pine in the sandy, glacial soils near Elbow Pond. The demand for our red pine at a large millyard in Quebec is enough for them to buy from Proctor.
Then, there teams. This is the boys' varsity soccer bench.
It's not too soon for snowboarders to meet after assembly. There is a sale of Burton, Rome and Nitro boards on campus tonight!
A small crowd often gathers on the steps of the Wise Center in the evening. What are they watching?
