In the typical routine--if there is such a thing--of school life, we don't consider how we look to outsiders. Hosting eighty-something newly admitted students and their parents, however, forces us to imagine what it is they see. Below, Chris Bartlett welcomes parents.

For some visitors, Proctor must be quite a shock. Here is a prep school with lots of academic structures, but an overtly informal social climate in which being your own individual is obviously cool. On the way in to assembly, Jaelyn, Mackenzie and Eben plug a power drink.

Then we take seats and see what happens. An Ocean Classroom slideshow is followed by a Proctor Environmental Action slideshow, which is followed by faculty and student announcements. Then, the rock band Taco Pistols performs.

On Fridays, of course, many students are dressed up in "casual" attire that--by Proctor standards--is formal. A few of these step forward to scold the rest of us for not going along with the stunt.

Speaking of stunts, following assembly Topher is trying to photograph skateboarders skidding out.

A high ratio of the families who visited today indicated their intention to sign on for next year, suggesting that they liked something they experienced during their revisit. It makes you stop and think.....

On the way in to assembly, Nick finishes a cotton candy ice cream cup, which he describes as "...the best."
