The Way We Look Today
2/23/2006

Immersed in the frenetic, often hilarious culture of adolescent life, it is easy to lose perspective on how we come across to others. How do we look to visiting families? To folks gassing up at Jake's? To the stream of humanity that drives through Andover on Route 11?

Perhaps the subject comes to mind because this is Spirit Week, and people are dressing in even stranger fashion than--well--usual. On Tuesday, faculty wore pink, while each class sported its own color. Wednesday we all wore Proctor stuff, which wasn't as noticeable as today's theme: The '80s.

Of course, the oldest students at the school were born in 1987, so the participants in this exercise have only an oblique notion of what '80s fashion entailed, which is just as well.

Today's contestants are sporting bright colors, lots of bling and modified bouffantes

.

This what you get when you say, "You're a tiger!"

Brooks (right)--dressing the way most of us did in the '80s--get congrats from his buds on winning the MVP award for varsity alpine skiing.
