The last page considered difficult transitions. This one explores full engagement. It doesn't take long to get fully underway. Campus grounds may be dirty with road sand and some trash (wrappers emerge as snow melts) but hey! The sun's out; temps are in the fifties, and we're freshmen!

The sun's intensity is the same now as when we start school in September. What better environment in which to teach the effects of ultraviolet radiation than in the element?

For some activities, the start of a new term means the start of new projects. Not so for Westy, who is in his third term of kayak construction.

Project Period is over, so Land Use Manager Dave Pilla needs to introduce a new crew of Woodsmen to the operation of the maple sugaring process, which should continue for another seven to ten days. We hope to manufacture fifty gallons of maple syrup from approximately 2,100 gallons of sap.

In an application of analytical geometry, Ben checks out his calculations on the area of a triangle.

To stoke the evaporator in the sugar house, Rob splits rock maple, oak and ash.
Down to an undershirt, Rob stokes the evaporator just at the moment when the boil begins to slow....
In woodshop, the same Rob varnishes a table he started in the fall, before spending the winter term abroad.
Also picking up a project after a term away, Kris powersands her kayak in the top floor of the boatshop.
Just back from Proctor in France, Charlie's into geometry.
Freshman science.
Luke and Jake looking terribly cool.
A sure sign we're fully operational: sleep deprivation is established....
