This winter has been relatively mild and wet, so today's snowstorm brings a welcome winter cover to campus.

Four dormitories are heated with wood-burning furnaces. Using local source fuel is both economical and environmentally sound. Thursday, the responsibility of feeding the Summerfield furnace falls to roommates Bo and Raymon.

It is cold and raw outside, with a steady easterly wind blowing, but warm and bright in the chem lab, where students are torching steel wool to observe possible deviations from the Law of Conservation of Matter.

Day students were dismissed early to get home. Otherwise, they are to stay put and participate in afternoon activities with boarders as usual. Coach Drew Donaldson '92 meets his junior varsity ski racing team at The Blackwater.

The Summerfield furnace. Say, isn't it about time for Bert Hinkley's annual reading of The Cremation of Sam McGee?
Oblivious to the storm outside, Nate studies anaphases in biology.
With travel to area ski facilities cancelled due to road conditions, our own Blackwater Ski Area is particularly busy.
A Ski Patroller shows off proper technique.
Even Structured Study hall is cancelled! The library, however remains open.
Here, the atmosphere is quiet and focused.
With few exceptions!
