Shooting Fish
1/11/2004

Taking photographs at this place is--as Steve Wilkins would say--like shooting fish in a barrel. Today's page offers images taken within a couple of hours on a bitter cold Saturday at Proctor. We start during Ensemble Block, which is a 70-minute period dedicated to the arts on Saturday mornings. While the jazz/rock band rehearses in the next room, Jon practices his guitar part in the recording studio:

I suppose if you have a chorus on campus, it's just a matter of time before they sing Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody (you know: "I am a poor boy; nobody loves me; he is a poor boy; nobody loves him...."). Well, we're doing it, and the men's chorus is choreographing the tune with inspiration from the film Wayne's World:

Working on their own in the dance studio, Keira and Brittany execute a sequence they claim is called sasha pas de bourree glissade glissade grad jete:

Girls' ice hockey plays two games this weekend. Below, between first and second period, a few of Erin's fans strangle her with affection:

Proctor hosted hundreds of USSA ski racers at a bitter cold Blackwater Ski Area Saturday.

The many volunteers who monitored gates, etc., making the whole thing possible (including parents of PA skiers) worked for hours in sub-zero conditions, and we thank them.
Billy on drums for the jazz/rock band.
Skiers from schools and colleges across the Northeast competed at The Blackwater.
This maneuver, which trandscends the ski area's insurance coverage, includes Ian (top) screaming "BRAKE!"
In a minibus bound for Phillips Exeter, Ruth brings her Teddy Bear (left).
A 4-year senior who grew up with my daughter, Chloe asked me to document a day in her life. I agreed to 45 minutes. Lots of people hug Chloe (left).
Here she is (right) with Amy on Santa Claus's throne which hasn't been put away in the electrical room yet.
Hallie (left) joined Chloe for a while at the men's room.
Here she is with Drew at the Pepsi machine.
She is manager to the boys' varsity basketball team. Here she is "at work".
Settled in for the busride to Exeter.
