This page is an update of a blog posted two days ago, before our heroes won the New England Prep School Championships.
Spring Break began Friday at noon, and students scattered to all corners of the globe. All except for eighteen intrepid young women who comprise Proctor's Girls' Hockey Team. For the sixth consecutive year, this squad has taken the Lakes Region Championship, and are now New England Prep School Athletic Conference Champions!
Prior to their final regular season tilt (a home victory over Tilton,) the team honored each senior (accompanied by parents) with flowers, applause, and a photo.
In the NEPSAC Quarterfinal contest (at home, Wednesday,) the girls exploded for four goals in the middle stanza on their way to a 6-1 victory over Thayer Academy.
Saturday at 2:00, they defeated Rivers School (to whom they lost 3-7 on February 18,) at
Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA, advancing to the New England Prep School Championship contest against Middlesex (to whom they lost 2-6 on December 7) which was played Sunday at 11:00 AM.
Down 4-1 early, and down 4-3 with 26 seconds to go--with our goalie pulled for a sixth skater--Proctor tied the game to go into overtime, a man down due to a penalty. Weathering that storm, they persevered, and Michele Holmes scored the game winner to make this heroic squad New England Champs. This was not expected (the team played with several starters out with injuries, and had lost 11 games this season.) It was a matter of coming together with spirit, pride and...to an immeasurable degree...the unwavering support of parents who traveled great distances--again and again--to cheer on their daughters. This is a feel good moment if there ever was one, and we congratulate and honor everyone who is a part of this wonderful accomplishment!
