Teams Work

Many of us are of the opinion that this year is off to a superb start. The "buy-in" by new students has been excellent, and the tone on campus has been both productive and distinctly positive.

Swayz brought the point home in Monday's assembly, citing the terrific vibe on campus over the Halloween weekend. Now, as we complete a truly phenomenal weekend, it feels like a positive crescendo building toward the finish. The Diary of Anne Frank  played to appreciative crowds Friday and Saturday, following a Fall Arts Show that exhibited amazing work across diverse media. Saturday afternoon, Proctor hosted the first New England High School Mountain Bike Championship in history at the Ski Area, with teams coming from as far as Camden, Maine.

I
t was a great event on a glorious day, and--while I don't have official results--our teams performed admirably.

I
had the opportunity to see the start of a J.V. field hockey game at Tilton. The tone on this team is fantastic! Here they score the first goal:

s if the term needed even greater catharsis, excitement is building--as never before--for Saturday's home football game against historic rival Holderness School. This contest always brings school spirit into focus, but several events have conspired to make this year special. Alumni have been networking as never before via Facebook; the Alumni Office has purchased foam "spirit mitts" and pom-poms embossed with Proctor logos, Honorary Captain Artie Pratt '56 is flying up from Florida and will be on the field for the coin toss. To top things off, Saturday night hundreds of fans swarmed New Hampton School's turf field for a night game against the undefeated Huskies. Ahead 13-0 at the half, Proctor was tied late in the game, until we scored with 22 seconds remaining to take the upset win! Players had been sporting Mohawk haircuts all week as a "psych" maneuver. It worked.
