Forty-seven years ago, a boy from Trumbull, Connecticut, graduated from Proctor. Over the decades that followed we didn't have a lot of communication with Randy Minor, so it came as a surprise when he emailed me a couple of months ago indicating his desire to rendezvous and donate some materials to Proctor archives. The other day, while he attended an antique clock auction in Manchester, I met Randy and followed him to his car in a parking garage. With much pride and sentiment, he handed me treasures that would someday end up in a dumpster if they were not of value to the school: his hockey stick, his Proctor baseball uniform and jacket, varsity letters, student handbooks, a baseball (later autographed by Phil Rizzuto) and the baseball bat with which he smacked his final home run for Proctor. A dingy parking garage hardly qualified for a moment of this significance, but I asked Randy to take one last swing:

I
t is interesting to consider the value of things to different people! Randy's gifts--which have sat in a dark attic for decades--will now go on display in our athletic archives. Also resting in a dark room in the basement of the Learning Center are hundreds of photographs, some dating from the 1870s. We can identify some faces, buildings and settings, but the significance of many are lost in history....until now. Trustee Travis Warren '91 has taken the initiative of having high resolution scans of dozens of photographs which now are populating a virtual archives on Flickr. Alumni and friends of the school may now peruse and tag these images, providing valuable information and value to otherwise meaningless images. Meanwhile (also through Travis's inspiration,) every image that appears on this site is archived and available to the public free of charge.

Speaking of alumni, we had a nice turnout for Friday's basketball game.

Someday, someone may "tag" this image, identifying these characters strolling up to assembly!

orld history students have completed installation projects around campus memorializing historical events that highlight social injustice and the role of the individual vs. the mob. Presentations drew outsiders who question students on the abstractions, metaphors and symbols employed, such as the mirror fragments adorning the beech tree.
