It is ironic that Proctor can be misinterpreted as less structured than schools with formal dress codes and traditional, hierarchic relationships, when--in fact--the parameters for student behaviors and responsibility are so defined. For four decades, our lives have been guided by The Greenbook, an ever-evolving student handbook that has grown to sixty-four pages. The clearer the structure, the less need for the adversarial.
Years ago, the Greenbook stipulated that the bell atop Maxwell Savage Hall could be rung by students to announce varsity wins at home and any win over arch-rival Holderness School. Nowadays, teams ring it whenever they win. It has been ringing a lot.
Here is girls' varsity lacrosse warming up before a 14-10 victory over Hebron.
Morgan drives for an early score:
The thing about ringing the bell is that you can overdo it. If it gets rocking hard enough, it can actually flip over, as it did following varsity baseball's thrilling, come-from-behind walk-off win Saturday. Jake snaps a curve:
Tommy slaps a run-scoring single to left in a four-run first inning against Winchendon Wednesday.
Softball's wins include a 2-1 thriller over St. Paul's School. Allie is a superb pitcher.
This team has lots of talent and determination, and they're strong on defense.
Both varsity and junior varsity boys' lacrosse won yesterday.
You will observe--in the lower right--a ball entering the Vermont net, something that happened seventeen times Wednesday.
Later in the evening, this gang (from different activities) played a little informal lax on the Town Green.
