Freestyle skiers and snowboarders train at Ragged Mountain. But when heavy, wet snow grounded afternoon travel yesterday, they found their away across the river to Proctor's Blackwater Ski Area. Yarrow's Lodge is a busy place.
It's easy for those of us who work at Proctor to take this little gem of a facility for granted. Visiting teams (including collegiate carnival squads) gush about the quality of everything from snow and grooming to the food service in the lodge, and recent improvements to the lift, the race trail and lighting make it a favored destination for thousands every year.
For some freestylers, yesterday's romp was the first time they're played in their own backyard! And--while the rails and boxes they usually seek are missing--natural jumps and granite ledges provided a whole new playground.

An unexpected afternoon at Proctor's own hill turned out to be a good time.
