I recall a time when Halloween was nothing more than the gluttonous collection of sugar-based products by prepubescent children. Those days are gone. Perhaps it was the alignment with a Saturday night that made this weekend's holiday so elaborate, but the community certainly threw itself into the spirit of Halloween. Eco-dorm was transformed into a three-story haunted house, complete with nightmarish murder scenes, bodies dragged here and there, stabbings, a chainsaw massacre and unexpected frights. Groups of eight students were led on a tour by a fiendish Alan McIntyre:
By the time the doors opened at 6:30, a line of victims had formed.
The next event to draw a crowd was the Monster Bash dance in the Wise Center. Parent volunteers had decorated the place, and offered ghoulish treats. One family even orchestrated a scéance in an adjacent classroom that was frightfully successful. Students came dressed in elaborate costumes, often in thematic teams and groups.
The Chiefs came from the movie
Slapshot.
Dorothy brought some friends from Oz:
Some of the themes were more difficult to define.
Harry--left--is a house.
The dance, featuring the talented student band Pillbug Light Reaction, was a huge success.
