Spring Family Weekend is graced with dry, sunny weather. A British Literature class soaks up early morning warmth on the steps of the community center.
Friday's schedule was amended to allow for afternoon parent/teacher conferences. Two academic blocks met before assembly, and parents were invited to sit in.
In Chemistry, students have fun with an exercise demonstrating equilibrium and molecular processes.
Parents joined us for an all-school assembly that featured two dance routines, including this performance choreographed by senior Irene Fortuna-Gutierrez (left).
Here is the throng pouring out of the Meeting House afterwards.
During late morning team practices, parents have several options, including a trip to the Mountain Classroom area at Elbow Pond, or a guided woodlands hike up to Mud Pond.
A PAPA (Parent Association) hospitality cart is on location in front of Maxwell Savage, serving up muffins and coffee for--well--anybody who wants anything!
Parent/teacher conferences run from 1:00 to 5:00 on Friday, and all Saturday morning.
Some students attend these conferences; others enjoy some down-time.
One option is an "inflatables" obstacle course which is set up in front of the Meeting House.
When the great Doc Severinsen (leader of the NBC Orchestra on the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson from 1962-92) retired to Mexico's fabled colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, he stumbled upon an outstanding local band featuring violinist Pedro Cartas and guitarist Gil Gutierrez (father of senior Irene Fortuna-Gutierrez, pictured in the dance photo, above.) They joined forces to create the extraordinary "Ritmo De La Vida," which entertained a packed house Friday night.
Gil and Pedro recreate the sounds of the legendary Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, and--with drums and bass accompaniment--Doc Severinsen plays like the child phenom he was decades ago. I have never heard a Proctor audience respond with such enthusiasm. We thank Ritmo De La Vida for a great gift to Family Weekend!
