Pursuit of Perfection
1/24/2008

We are on a long, "Bonus" weekend, and I am attending a conference in Nashville. The next Corner will appear late on Wednesday.

In its quest to hype the New England Patriots undefeated streak, the sports media is using phrases like "The Pursuit of Perfection." It's an interesting concept, because a game is a metaphor for life, and life is not perfect. Here's Kate in ceramics before playing a basketball game.

William is a perfect gentleman, helping George Emeny--who is recovering from knee surgery--to take a seat.

Their record may appear perfect, but the Patriots are not perfect. Neither is girls' varsity basketball, who have won all twelve contests while outscoring opponents 746 to 409. Lunch before Wednesday's game.

It's game time. Wednesday's visitors are a strong shooting team from Vermont Academy. Pinky, Angelica and Eliza stack an in-bound play...

And here's Kate (pictured above, in ceramics) at the top of the key.

Angelica, who joins her sister, Steph, at Proctor this year, drives the baseline for two.

And here she hits a jumper.

The team huddles after a win coach Noreen Fifield calls, "...not pretty."

The perfect mullet?

On the way to lunch, Eliza seeks refuge behind an L.L. Bean catalog.
Two hours later, she fights for position in the high post.

Duncan's not claiming perfection. He's worried about bombing a meteorology test!
