On November 13, as other students were finishing up the fall trimester and looking forward to Thanksgiving Break, twenty of our top twenty-eight USSA skiers finished up early final exams, boarded a jet for Geneva, and flew east for twelve days of training in the French Alps. This is Geneva.
It takes about three hours to get from Geneva to the bus station at the lower village, Le Lac, at Tignes, France.
The lure of training here is the guarantee of skiable terrain on a glacier that descends from 3500 meters. It didn't take Tyler long to get into form.
This is the fourth year we've trained at Tignes, and this time we enjoyed the finest conditions ever, with lots of fresh snow at all altitudes. The team is stacked with youth. Mansfield's another ninth grader.
Only one senior went to Tignes. Most of the squad is comprised of sophomores and freshmen. Here's Will demonstrating why he's on the team:
Sarah, a sophomore.
