One in 5,000 candids is good enough for a brochure. This site is the opposite of a brochure: it's all candids. Instead of trying to capture perfection, it's all about the reality of living and working with 330 teenagers. Still, when you take enough candids, you end up with idyllic scenes, so when I was asked for some contributions for an annual fund brochure, I found some candidates. Like this artsy image conveying the cool, sweet promise of March:
If you had to set up a photoshoot for a publication, you'd go to the library, where lighting, natural wood and academic purpose combine to promote quality imagery.
The candid below would never make it into a brochure: the light in the back is all wrong, the books are piled up on one another causing academic anxiety, and the boy in the back left is having a bad hair day.
Elsewhere, images tend to need captions. Like, "Sean didn't mean to knock the skull off...."
