Of all the Proctor alumni/ae who have pursued careers in music, and there are several, none have achieved the status of rock star Matt Nathanson '91. Matt was back to play in an assembly this year, and enthralled students with his music and showmanship. Matt drew a big crowd recently at Copley Square Plaza in Boston.

Matt's music doesn't need another review; this guy has made it. I hear him interviewed periodically on radio stations everywhere, and he's now based out of San Francisco.

What makes his live performances so very special is the hilarious banter he interjects between songs.... a series of wandering, thoughtful, outrageous digressions on the ways of the world. I recall some of this patter in his performances--almost twenty years ago--in Holland Auditorium, but they've matured and become more....uhmmm, let's see...adult.

Word that Matt was playing Boston prompted Alumni Czar Alex Estin to e-blast area grads with an invitation to gather post-concert at Dillons. A fine crowd turned out. Here's a brain trust: Sam Browning, Bobby Downey, Mike Dow and Mike's friend, Michelle.

Below, Admission Assistant Christina Dotchin hangs with a couple of friends.

Below: Abby's friend, Sarah Jordan, Jessie Rives and Abby Marsh.

If you get a chance to see Matt Nathanson, do it, and mention your Proctor affiliation.

Rock star.
Jared Minton and Megan Manning.
Late-breaking news: Matt's new album is #8 in sales on iTunes this week!
