The works of artist George Segal inspired an art installation which appeared on campus Wednesday. It started with students wrapped in Saran.
The Saran is the covered with at least two layers of tightly-wrapped packing tape. The experience is surprisingly uncomfortable for Andrew. By the time we're ready to cut off the lower body form, Andrew can not move his legs, and needs to be lifted onto the operating table.
Starting with the extremities, students use scissors to liberate body parts.
Now, it's time to wrap the upper body! Andrew gets plenty of attention, but--again--the experience is physically uncomfortable!
The upper form is cut and removed.
Andrew's greatest discomfort is still ahead....
Lizzie self-wraps in Saran in a seated position.
It was all worth it. The class brings two-and-a-half human forms outside to find a site for the installation.
And here it is. Notice the pair of legs (Alex's) emerging from the left side of the maple.
Alex mimics Andrew's form, close to his own lower body form.
