This weekend is Winter Carnival, and student leaders and members of Student Activities have been busy planning a full set of activities. The semi-formal dance is tonight. The student band Slinky Tim (GroovyFunkEdgyJazz with rock influences) plays Saturday night in the Wise.

Their repertoire includes these greats: Ferris Wheel Technician, Funky Fish Box, Beach O' Bones (The Sard), Satellite Reaction and, of course, Bill's Fantasy. One-third of the band, the drummer, is Sam. Here's a picture of one-third of Sam, or one-ninth of Slinky Tim, in chemistry today.

The word carnival originally referred to bingeing on meat, usually following a fast. The cooking skill class enjoyed a true carnival in Kris Johnson's kitchen, where they made gourmet burgers. They started by ginding up pieces of "chuck," which--inexplicably--is cheap and has lots of fat.

Speaking of food, bringing eats into certain teachers' classrooms is forbidden. In others', it's not an issue. The snack break following assembly can extend into the moments before the next block.

Soon, we're down to business. Ransom and Ashley concentrate on a quiz in Themes in Literature.

This is Henry in freshman science. Someday, Henry's going to be famous. How do I know? You'll see. Just be patient.

In keeping with (very) long-standing tradition, one of the weekend's activities is Saturday night broomball on the pond. For now, we're playing pick-up hockey.

Snowflakes hang throughout the rotunda, announcing Winter Carnival.
Kelsey is giving Jack a haircut, but he's very unhappy with it.
Sabrina and Amanda are working on a project in freshman science.
Joanna samples ground chuck topped with caramelized onions, mayonnaise, cracked pepper and a touch of gourmet mustard.
Frasier shows us his super-concentrating look; Duncan shows us his thumbs.
