While I'm away on vacation, I'm recycling 11 of last spring's best pages over the next 12 days. This one first appeared April 17.

In these times of international tension and anti-American sentiment abroad, we are aware of the risks we take to provide the best in experiential education. At our programs in Aix and Segovia, students are taught to observe the dress and manners of local folk, and to blend in seamlessly... abandoning the trappings of U. S. teen culture. Below, Zorro (until recently known as Joe) gets some help from Dave Spear practicing the Spanish skateboarding custom of "Empujo":

Back on campus we take risks, too. Nora gets a lift from Anne after lunch:

Most of the ice is out of the pond, but Blair's football ended up on a raft of slush. Wasting no time, he launched a punt and navigated the floes.

And here's Joe--excuse me, I meant "Zorro"--tossing his hat on the windshield of a toy police car. Where's la guardia civil when you need them?
The same Blair shown in the punt can't resist a spontaneous polar plunge before his afternoon class.
There are lots of reasons why he shouldn't do this. 1. This is the same water the eutrofies every summer, over burdened with mutated tadpoles. 2. It's 33 degrees, and you'd last a minute if you couldn't get out.
3. It's not deep enough for diving head-first.
Mike seems to have found a safe place.
