Before we talk football, congratulations to both the boys' varsity and JV soccer teams for their inspiriational victories over Holderness Saturday, and to the girls' varsity soccer team for playing Holderness to a 0-0 tie this afternoon.
It's rare to see a prep school athletic contest played on the sabbath, but Saturday's SATs pushed the Proctor-Holderness football game to Sunday afternoon. One benefit is that a couple of hundred students who would be playing on their teams at the same time (on a Saturday,) are free to come join the party. And that's what happened at Leonard Field this afternoon, where one of the oldest rivalries in New England athletics, the Proctor-Holderness football game, played out before a delirious home crowd.
It was a crowd that included dozens of alumni/ae, past parents and friends, many of whom came hundreds of miles to root on the undefeated team in green.
The first half was a rout. Proctor scored on its first several possessions, while stopping the Bulls offense repeatedly. This is Andrew Mason breaking free for a first down.
Isiah Moore ran wild.
Proctor's football program is a mix of experience and young talent. Sophomores and ninth graders contributed to today's big win. Three-year junior Raymon Beach had a huge day.
As you can see, no one was going to catch Ray on this run....
Spencer Hebert was hungry for a score.
Proctor's sixth touchdown of the first half was the prettiest: a bomb from Tommy Moyon to Carlos Bryant.
Congratulations to the undefeated Proctor football team! Next Saturday, we host KUA for a northern New England championship contest. Join the fun!
