The concept of "team sport" runs a gamut from fluid athletics that demand constant interplay and cooperation from all players on the field, to those activities in which highly individualized performances contribute to an overall team score. Soccer, hockey, basketball and football are examples of the former. Wrestling, skiing and tennis fall in the latter catagory. Cycling falls in the twilight zone...that place between time and space in which individual performance and team outcome converge in another dimension.
Okay, that's enough Rod Serling. The point is that we have a cycling program with a great legacy of success, and that success is built of individuals working for a team. It can be intimidating.
Here we are at the start of the Gould Road Race in Bethel Maine, a course with rolling hills finishing with two steep climbs.
Now, we switch to the Holderness Bike Race at which Pete Arnold finished 1st for the Boys' Bs.
Still at Holderness, pictured are Ashley Ward and Corrine Cline drafting for Vanessa Emery, who went on for the win. This is a team sport, built on individual contributions.
No team can accomplish all this without a mechanic, or a mechanic-in-training, like our Thaddeus Bicknell.
