Family Weekend Review
4/23/2006

Spring Family Weekend was well attended, but for those who missed it, here's a look back at the past two days. Parents and siblings experienced a relatively typical all-school assembly which contained the usual mix of information, serious reflection and nonsense. Gregor Makechnie took us through a fascinating psychological demonstration of how we tend to see what we expect to see.

Visitors also attended a full day of classes, often contributing to group activities and discussions.

Friday evening and Saturday morning were dedicated to parent/teacher conferences.

Parents with a free minute between conferences could hang out with the crowd at the student center....

The Alice Fowler Singers performed at Saturday's lunch, which was served under a tent in front of the dining hall. The sun cast a spectacular shadow of maple branches on the tent surface above.

Families cheered teams at Saturday afternoon games (here, at JV boys' lacrosse's win.)

After those games, most families gathered up their kids for a Sunday-Monday weekend exploring New England. It was time to get out of town!

Thanks to Ellen Duane P'08 for contributing the photos of the hike and the singers under the tent!

At Friday afternoon's all-parent meeting, Mike commented on the awesome reality of leading a school which has students studying in Joshua Tree, Segovia, Aix-en-Provence, Tamarindo, the North Atlantic and--Andover, New Hampshire.
Following Mike's remarks, we enjoyed a "rehearsal" for the spring musical, Grease. This show is going to be fantastic!
Parents actively participated in class processes.
Assembly featured the usual nonsense, including examples of Friday's outrageous dress code.
Evan and Alex speak to the advantages of vests.
A surveying class worked throughout the center of campus.
Parent volunteers jump right in with food prep, hosting hospitality carts, decorating and cleaning up.
Land Use Manager Dave Pilla led a hike across the school's extensive property, to visit Mud Pond and Adder Pond.
Parent/teacher conferences occured both in formal, scheduled slots and spontaneously.
