Firsts
9/30/2005

Several firsts were observed this week. At our Blackwater Ski Area, Proctor fielded its first competitive mountain biking team, and hosted 90 cyclists from nine New England schools for a grueling sprint on a network of ski trails and access roads.

The event was coordinated by coaches Drew Donaldson and Josh Norris, both members of the Class of '92. Here's the start for the B Group:

Here's Proctor's Charlie Willauer '08, son of Charlie Willauer '77, cheered on by Athletic Director Kathy Noble, Tim Norris, Lee Carvalho and Josh Norris.

The growth of the female population in the student body over the past several years is a great accomplishment. One hundred and fifty-eight girls represent 46% of the student body, a statistic unthinkable until recently (the school was all boys from 1932-1971).

One of the outcomes of this accomplishment in co-education is the creation of a girls' 3rd soccer team, which played its first game Wednesday.

This may be tough to see, but Josh fashioned extraordinary prizes for the cyclists out of spokes, sprockets and chain. They have "1" "2" and "3" (from left) in chain.
