In ancient times, the traditional Head's Holiday provided a break from the routine of mid-winter school life for a day on the slopes. Ski passes were purchased by the school; buses arrived at breakfast, and just about everyone went skiing. In recent decades, more students have opted to hang out on campus, sleep or take advantage of any number of trips and activities. Here's the scene at noon in Summerfield commons:

Carr House is the place to be. Here, dorm parent Kristofer Johnson was serving up coffee and strawberries dipped in chocolate to students watching the opera The Marriage of Figaro.
Are faculty resting indoors in similar fashion on this surprise day off? I don't think so.
