Welcome, Day Students
9/1/2004

The annual Day Student & Family Picnic was held Tuesday evening in front of Cannon Dining Hall. Proctor is opening this year with 344 students--the largest population in history--due in part to the bounce in day enrollment to 73. Last night's welcoming event was orchestrated by Parent Association (PAPA) volunteers.

Thirty-five years ago, Proctor had very few day students, despite a long heritage of serving local students and families. Today, day students comprise a very strong, high achieving 21% of the student body. PAPA is also a remarkably strong, high achieving organization. Here's PAPA Chair Laurie Coursin introducing her volunteers with pride.

The program included greetings by Steve Wilkins and others, and a clever interview of senior day students regarding school policies and day student life:

Welcome, day students and families!
Volunteers staff the grille and serving lines.
A sumptuous spread.
When Deb Cross '73 attended Proctor, she comprised one half of the day student population. Now she and Rip are parents of Jon '98, Lindsay '00, Trevor '03 and Evan '06.
School Leaders Jake and Sarah were back to offer greetings and their positive goals for the year.

Isabel, who enjoyed the proceedings, will be applying for admission to the Class of '21.
